Product details
The wine "Zaria" is a blend of indigenous white Vipava Valley varieties: Pinela, Malvasia, Welschriesling, Zelen, and Vitovska, and is produced using the traditional Vipava Valley wine-making method known as "Vipavec."
Like with other Batič wines, Zaria revolves around the grapes. The selected vineyard sites, extremely low yields per hectare, biodynamic cultivation of the vineyards, understanding the language of nature, and farming according to its laws are the key guiding principles for Zaria wine. Zaria was in contact with the grape skins for two months. It then matured in a 35hl oak barrel. The natural sediments that form in the wine nourish and protect it. The intense color of Zaria is attributed to the very low yield per hectare, botrytized grapes, and the style of aging. Zaria tastes quite different from the wines of the 21st century. With Zaria, we aimed to revive the classical and unique method of winemaking that imbues wine with the power of medicine and joy.
The color of the wine is a bright orange, reminiscent of the warm hues of autumn. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad, and structured, with balanced acidity and pleasant tannin structure. The maceration time of 2 months and barrel aging of 22 months impart an additional dimension of flavor and texture to the wine. This wine is a prime example of the art of maceration fermentation and the philosophy of minimal intervention. It is unfiltered and produced with minimal sulfur addition, underscoring its naturalness and purity. As a certified Demeter operation, Batič guarantees the highest quality and sustainability in wine production. |
Recommended Enjoyment Moments |
The Batič Zaria Cuvée is a versatile companion to a variety of dishes. It pairs excellently with fish, meat, cheese, and vegetarian dishes. Its structure and complexity make it an ideal partner for an elegant dinner or a convivial gathering with friends.
Serve this wine at a temperature of about 15 degrees Celsius to fully showcase its aromas. It is excellent as an aperitif or paired with a main course. It is particularly recommended with grilled fish, mature cheese, or hearty meat dishes.
Store the wine in a cool, dark place to preserve its quality. The optimal storage temperature is between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its excellent aging potential of at least 10 to 15 years, the wine develops even greater depth and complexity over time. Ideally, open the bottle 2-3 hours before enjoying or decant it generously to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its full spectrum of flavors. |
The Art of Winemaking in Harmony with Nature: Batič Winery |
Batič Winery, deeply rooted in the picturesque landscape of the Vipava Valley in Slovenia, embodies winemaking that masterfully combines tradition and innovation. The Batič family, engaged in winemaking for generations, is committed to producing wines of the highest quality, with each drop reflecting the love, sweat, and loyalty to the Vipava region.
Batič's wine lines – Classic, Selection, Angel, and the forward-thinking Marlon – express the diverse facets of the winery. The Classic line, introduced in the 1970s, marked the beginning of a new era that combined traditional winemaking methods of the Vipava Valley with modern techniques. The Selection wines, on the other hand, reflect the mineral character of the Eocene soil and the unique microclimate of the Vipava Valley. These wines, made from indigenous Vipava varieties, ferment in contact with the grape skins and age for two years in large oak barrels. The Angel line breaks with conventions, offering wines sourced from various biodynamically managed vineyards. These wines, standing out in blind tastings, are renowned for their elegance. The Marlon line, named after the Batič Brajda vineyard, is a pioneering project featuring resistant grape varieties cultivated without pesticides. This line represents the winery's commitment to sustainability and innovation. Batič Winery, dedicated to biodynamic philosophy, cultivates 225,000 vines on 45 hectares and produces approximately 75,000 liters of wine annually. Batič wines are not available in supermarkets but are intended for moments when one takes the time to savor a glass of wine in all its beauty. With a deep connection to the earth and an unwavering pursuit of perfection, Batič Winery sets standards in the world of wine, inviting wine lovers to experience the essence of the Vipava Valley in every sip. |
