Product details

Batič Selekcija wines are distinguished by their pronounced mineral character, which carries the signature of the Eocene soil and the unique microclimate of the Vipava Valley. Precision, elegance, and longevity are the success of biodynamic cultivation, extremely low hectare load, and respect for winemaking tradition in the Vipava Valley. The white wines of the Selection line are indigenous Vipava varieties, fermented in contact with the grape skins according to the Vipava winemaking tradition.

"Batič, Malvazija selekcija" is an outstanding representative of Slovenian wine tradition, specifically from the picturesque Vipava Valley. This orange wine, crafted from the Malvazija grape, is a true masterpiece of winemaking. With an alcohol content of 13.5% and a shelf life of at least 10-15 years, it reveals impressive complexity and depth.

On the nose, it unfolds a bouquet reminiscent of dried apricots, orange peels, and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, it is layered and balanced. The maceration period of 1-2 weeks gives it a characteristic tannin structure and a pleasant texture. Aging in large wooden barrels ensures gentle integration of flavors and a fine spiciness that harmonizes with the natural fruitiness of the Malvazija grape. This wine is a prime example of biodynamic winemaking philosophy, reflected in its purity and authenticity. Minimal sulfur addition and unfiltered bottling preserve the natural essence of the wine, emphasizing its individuality.

Recommended Enjoyment Moments

"Batič, Malvazija selekcija" is a versatile companion for special occasions. Its structure and complexity make it the ideal partner for an elegant dinner. It pairs excellently with fish dishes, whether it's a pan-seared sea bass or delicate salmon fillet. It also complements meat dishes such as braised lamb or duck breast, showcasing its flavor diversity. Vegetarian dishes, especially those with mushrooms or roasted vegetables, are perfectly complemented by its fruity and spicy notes.

Serve this wine at a temperature of approximately 15-16°C to fully appreciate its flavors. A large wine glass allows experiencing the complexity and subtle nuances of the wine.

"Batič, Malvazija selekcija" should be stored in a cool, dark place, ideally at a constant temperature between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. The bottle should be stored horizontally to keep the cork moist. This wine has excellent aging potential, developing even deeper complexity over the years. For optimal enjoyment, we recommend opening the bottle an hour before serving to allow the flavors to fully unfold.

The Art of Winemaking in Harmony with Nature: Batič Winery

Batič Winery, deeply rooted in the picturesque landscape of the Vipava Valley in Slovenia, represents winemaking that masterfully combines tradition and innovation. The Batič family, practicing viticulture for generations, is dedicated to producing wines of the highest quality, with each drop reflecting the love, sweat, and loyalty to the Vipava region.

Batič's wine lines—Classic, Selection, Angel, and the forward-thinking Marlon—are expressions of the winery's diverse facets. The Classic line, introduced in the 1970s, marked the beginning of a new era, combining traditional winemaking methods of the Vipava Valley with modern techniques. The Selection wines, on the other hand, reflect the mineral character of the Eocene soil and the unique microclimate of the Vipava Valley. These wines, made from indigenous Vipava varieties, ferment in contact with the grape skins and age for two years in large oak barrels.

The Angel line breaks with conventions, offering wines sourced from various biodynamically managed vineyards. These wines, standing out in blind tastings, are known for their elegance. The Marlon line, named after the Batič Brajda vineyard, is a pioneering project with resistant grape varieties cultivated without pesticides. This line represents the winery's commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Batič Winery, dedicated to the biodynamic philosophy, cultivates 225,000 vines on 45 hectares and produces approximately 75,000 liters of wine annually. Batič wines are not available in supermarkets but are intended for those moments when one takes the time to enjoy a glass of wine in all its beauty. With a deep connection to the earth and an unwavering pursuit of perfection, Batič Winery sets standards in the world of wine, inviting wine enthusiasts to experience the essence of the Vipava Valley in every sip.
