Product details
The Marlon Hrastov Hrib is a blend from the vineyard of the same name, comprised of various indigenous white Vipava Valley grape varieties such as Pinela, Malvazija, Welschriesling, ... The unsprayed grapes were handpicked in the first half of September. This is followed by spontaneous fermentation and malolactic fermentation (conversion to lactic acid). The wine matures for one and a half years in used 225-liter oak barrels. Marlon Hrastov Hrib is bottled without filtration and clarification. According to Miha Batič: "the farmer should only be an assistant to nature and thus choose the right grape variety for the selected vineyard locations. Let the bees, earthworms, birds, and the organisms hidden from sight do their work. The soil should be enlivened by the diversity of plants, those that the soil itself calls for, and the vines selected by the farmer considering the soil should be protected from the winds. The first ripe grapes will show whether his choice of grape variety aligns with the one the Creator has assigned to the soil he has chosen. The vine itself has no name in nature, only characteristics. Man has given it a name. Today, I no longer search for indigenous varieties by their name, but by their essence. This way of thinking has led me to varieties that our country has never known. Fundamentally, they have everything that the indigenous varieties had in the past. These varieties are now cultivated without any pesticides, just like the indigenous varieties of the past." The color of the wine is a bright orange, reminiscent of the warm tones of autumn. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad, and structured, with balanced acidity and pleasant tannin structure. The maceration period of around 4 weeks and the barrel aging of 18 months give the wine an additional dimension of flavor and texture. This wine is a prime example of minimal intervention philosophy. It is unfined and made with minimal sulfur, emphasizing its naturalness and purity. As a certified Demeter operation, Batič guarantees the highest quality and sustainability in wine production. |
Recommended Enjoyment Moments |
The Batič Marlon Hrastov Hrib Cuvée is a versatile companion to a range of dishes. It pairs excellently with meat, game, roasted dishes, and vegetarian dishes. Its structure and complexity make it an ideal partner for an elegant dinner or a convivial gathering with friends.
Serve this wine at a temperature of about 15 degrees Celsius to fully showcase its aromas. It is particularly recommended with spicy Asian dishes, mature cheese, or hearty seafood dishes. Store the wine in a cool, dark place to preserve its quality. The optimal storage temperature is between 10 and 14 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its excellent aging potential of at least 10 to 15 years, the wine develops even greater depth and complexity over time. Open the bottle preferably 2 - 3 hours before consumption or decant it into a generous carafe (e.g., the Axium by Zalto) to let the wine breathe and fully reveal its aromatic spectrum. |
The Art of Winemaking in Harmony with Nature: Batič Winery |
The Batič Winery, deeply rooted in the picturesque landscape of the Vipava Valley in Slovenia, epitomizes wine production that masterfully combines tradition and innovation. The Batič family, engaged in winemaking for generations, is dedicated to producing wines of the highest quality, each drop reflecting the love, sweat, and loyalty to the Vipava region. Batič's wine lines – Classic, Selection, Angel, and the pioneering Marlon – embody the diverse facets of the winery. The Classic line, introduced in the 1970s, marked the beginning of a new era, combining traditional winemaking methods of the Vipava Valley with modern techniques. The Selection wines, on the other hand, reflect the mineral character of the Eocene soil and the unique microclimate of the Vipava Valley. These wines, made from indigenous Vipava varieties, ferment in contact with grape skins and age for two years in large oak barrels. The Angel line breaks with conventions, offering wines sourced from various biodynamically managed vineyards. These wines, standing out in blind tastings, are renowned for their elegance. The Marlon line, named after the Batič Brajda vineyard, is a pioneering project with resistant grape varieties grown without pesticides. This line represents the winery's commitment to sustainability and innovation. Embracing the biodynamic philosophy, Batič Winery cultivates 225,000 vines on 45 hectares and produces approximately 75,000 liters of wine annually. Batič wines are not available in supermarkets but are intended for those moments when one takes the time to enjoy a glass of wine in all its beauty. With a deep connection to the earth and an unwavering pursuit of perfection, Batič Winery sets standards in the world of wine, inviting wine lovers to experience the essence of the Vipava Valley in every sip. |
